HonuWorx has been awarded an R&D contract under NATO DIANA’s Rapid Adoption Service on behalf of Defence Research and Development Canada (DRDC), marking the first contract awarded through the programme on behalf of an Allied nation.

The contract follows HonuWorx’s participation in NATO DIANA’s Critical Infrastructure and Logistics Challenge, where the company worked with end users and technical experts to refine its approach to subsea inspection and intervention.

NATO DIANA’s Rapid Adoption Service enables Allied nations to co-develop and prototype innovative technologies at speed, reducing administrative barriers and accelerating the transition from concept to operational capability.

Under the new contract, HonuWorx will undertake an engineering study focused on extending the operating depth of its uncrewed subsea system and addressing specific end-user requirements for intervention in deepwater environments. The work will also include development of a high-fidelity simulation capability to demonstrate mission potential and reduce technical risk.

“Autonomous subsea systems are evolving from data collection platforms toward the delivery of real capability, with the potential to change how sensitive seabed operations are conducted,” said Lee Wilson, CEO of HonuWorx. “This work focuses on extending that capability into deeper environments while meeting specific operational requirements, and represents a further step toward operational deployment.”

The project reflects increasing demand for persistent, lower-cost approaches to subsea operations, with applications spanning offshore infrastructure and security.
